Ask Copilot about installed Apps in Business Central

The newest version of Business Central, 26.3, allows us to ask Copilot about our installed apps.

Copilot’s chat capabilities have been enhanced with the following:

  • Users can ask questions about content from installed add-on apps, such as new pages, fields, and business processes.
  • Copilot explains and guides based on online documentation provided by the apps installed in your Business Central environment.
  • To enhance Copilot with information from the web, administrators must first Enable Bing Search from the Copilot & agent capabilities page.
  • The Ask Copilot icon is available in tooltips for custom fields that originate from installed apps.
  • These enhancements are currently available in sandbox environments only.

Now, let’s see some practical examples. I created a small “Tour Management” app in Business Central. So, let’s talk about a few things.

Since there are no default fields, tables, etc., this looks good!

Let’s try another one:

Using the chat to gain insight into your work has been working just fine so far. What about explaining fields?

It’s not really helpful, although we have a tooltip that explains this field. At this point, it’s not helpful.

Since we are not yet able to add our PTE documentation, I won’t test this.

I was trying to ask about some global installed apps from AppSource, but I haven’t received any answers in the chat yet. Maybe I picked the wrong apps.

Conclusion

This feature is already helpful at this stage. Asking about records from custom tables or extensions really enhances it, in my humble opinion. Once Copilot can read third-party documentation or your own PTE documentation, it will be a massive game changer! It will transform the entire training and support process in Business Central.
