My last blog post must be light years in the past…..anyway.
As with every major release of Business Central, I’ve been taking a closer look at the new features and capabilities, and somehow – I don’t know – I’m not as excited at first glance as I was the last time.
Why is that? In the last releases we had the Analyze function, Copilot, … and so on. But this time? No big changes at first glance.
Let’s take a closer look and start with the user experience:
Change the data search method in lists
Sounds ok, but since we’ve been working with filters and the search function for several years now… nice to have some improvements there, but not really necessary… in my opinion.
Experience access keys with key tips in more languages
Hands up, who really uses Business Central with shortcuts all the time?
Resize columns even when personalization isn’t enabled
No doubt, this is fine since a lot of customers or their admins limit personalization these days.
Use drag and drop on file upload dialog to attach multiple files
That’s good, period.
So all in all the user experience has improved a bit, but no game changer in my opinion. But to be honest, why should you? Of course there are still a few things to tweak – but all in all Business Central is just great to use, period.
So what’s new or different in the application?
These three in particular look really interesting:
- Allow more than one user to post warehouse entries at a time
- Use new reports and demo data for financial reporting
- Manage subscription billing and revenue and expense recognition
So we get a whole new module, better financial monitoring, and fewer blocks on important transactions? I’ll buy it! Nice!
Since there are some new regulations about e-documents, especially e-invoice, I really appreciate that MSFT is covering this with this feature:
Start using E-Documents framework localized for Germany
Companies in Germany are going crazy about this, and rightly so. Having this covered by default in Business Central? Smart move – I’ll take that
But what about Copilot? Nothing new? Hype already over? … Don’t think so:
Boom! Since we already have some incredible features like Chat with Copilot, Suggest Sales Lines, Analyze Data with Copilot, the new features just blow the roof off:
- Start creating Power Automate flows with Copilot
- Chat with Copilot to learn how to use installed add-on apps
- Experience enhancements to chat with Copilot
- Experience enhancements to analysis assist with Copilot
Did I miss anything? Yes, major administrative improvements for handling or monitoring PTE, better Admin Center and so on. But NO – I am still not happy about the “skip some updates” thing.
To be honest with you. At first I thought this major was something about improving the existing, getting some kind of stability in it, but with the second look – damn those are some really nice features that are definitely worth an update!
What do you think? Yay or Nay?
